REVEALED: The Connection Between Northern New Mexico College, The Massacre in Gaza & Border Security

How can Northern New Mexico College support the Massacre of women & children in Gaza? How can NNMC support more security at the US/Mexican border? Did you know that Northern New Mexico College accepted sponsorship money from Day and Zimmermann S.O.C Los Alamos? Day and Zimmermann formed a joint venture with Lockheed Martin in 2004 called DS2 to provide equipment to the Department of Defense.

The money from this company was used to sponsor the 2014 Mujeres Activas en Letras y Cambio Social (MALCS) Conference at the NNMC El Rito Campus from July 28- August 2nd. According to the website, MALCS was created to allow underrepresented women to combine education and activism.

One women dared to stand up and question the legitimacy of allowing MALCS to be sponsored by a corporation that provided security at the US/Mexican Border and supplies weapons and ammunition for the Israeli massacre of Palestinian women and children. Her name is Dr. Patricia Marie Parea.

Dr. Parea was a member of the original site committee for the 2014 MALCS Conference. She was also tenure-track assistant professor (Humanities) at NNMC. She voiced her concerns to NMMC President Nancy “Rusty” Barcelo.

You would think that the woman heading the site committee for a National underrepresented women’s conference would see the irresponsibility of allowing Day & Zimmermann to be a sponsor 2014 MALCS. But you would be wrong if you thought that. Dr. Parea was immediately removed from the MALCS site committee and was “removed” from her job by NNMC  Administration. There were rumors at the MALCS Conference that Dr. Barcelo & NNMC received a very large check for allowing the sponsorship to remain.

Dr. Parea wrote a letter to the community following these events to educate them on the sponsorship issues at the conference. The letter can be read in it’s entirety here.

The world needs to know what is going on. The love of money at institutions of higher education seems to outweigh social responsibility and high moral standards. The unbelievable corruption and disgusting abuse of power at Northern New Mexico College  and other institutions continues and it needs to stop! Support divestment!
